Everyone can benefit from therapy. We all have experiences and are impacted differently by them. Your experience has afforded you certain skills that have supported you with navigating your journey thus far; however, as you continue to develop into your authentic self, life can become stressful, challenging, and unmanageable at times. It is nice to have a non-judgmental ear to listen, offer fresh perspective on addressing your challenges, and challenge your perception in a non-confrontational way to evoke change or get you going in the right direction. Engaging in therapy is a big step, and it takes a lot of self-awareness to see that you are in need of extra support to avoid the continuation of unhealthy patterns or behavior, negative thinking, dealing with grief, responding to triggers and other stressful circumstances that you feel are counterproductive to reaching your goal.
When paneled with insurance companies, it causes the provider and client to be limited with regard to flexibility and creativity in treatment. Often, labeling your needs with an end date. I find that this often causes a disruption in treatment and adds another layer of pressure for the client to be "fixed" by a certain time instead of allowing time to learn to better "manage" challenges and/or issues out of the clients' control. As an out of network provider, this allows the client and provider to be fully in control of the focus of treatment without limitations and duration of care without unforeseen interruption often encountered by providers who accept insurance. For this reason, the Savoy Wellness Center offers out of network, affordable mental health services. A Superbill can also be provided per client request for those clients that are seeking some sort of reimbursement from their insurance for selecting an out of network provider.
My goal in therapy, from the engagement stage, is to support you with learning to independently manage your circumstances. Therapy provides a source of support, fresh perspective, a safe ear to listen and evidence based practices that support your work in the areas of problem solving, development of coping strategies, management of anxiety, depression, unresolved childhood matters, grief and loss support, stress management and so much more. The benefits of therapy also depends on what you put into the process, your willingness to be intentional about transferring skills learned from therapy into real time situations. Before beginning therapy you are asked about what you hope to achieve, that way your treatment plan is the focal point of every session.
